Writer Match
Terms of Service
Last updated: 11/06/2026
1. Introduction and Acceptance
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Writer Match application and website (collectively, the “Platform”), operated by Writer Match / Shehzadi Aziz (“we”, “us”, or “our”). The Platform is accessible at app.writermatchapp.com and via the Writer Match mobile application.
By creating an account or using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Platform.
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or in-app notification. Your continued use of the Platform after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
2. Description of Service
Writer Match is a matchmaking platform that connects writers — including screenwriters, novelists, poets, and playwrights — with potential collaborators based on shared interests, genres, availability, and creative goals.
Writer Match is a matching service only. We facilitate introductions between writers. We are not a party to, and bear no responsibility for, any collaboration, partnership, agreement, or creative work that arises from connections made through the Platform.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years of age to use the Platform. If you are between 16 and 18 years old, you confirm that you have obtained the consent of a parent or legal guardian to use the Platform. We reserve the right to request verification of age or parental consent at any time.
By using the Platform, you represent and warrant that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms in your jurisdiction.
4. User Accounts
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must provide accurate, current, and complete information when creating your account and keep this information up to date.
You must not create more than one account, impersonate another person, or transfer your account to another individual without our prior written consent.
5. Content and Submissions
Your Content: You retain all ownership rights to scripts, loglines, synopses, writing samples, and any other content you submit to the Platform (“User Content”). You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to submit and share the content.
By submitting User Content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to display, distribute, and reproduce your User Content solely for the purpose of operating and promoting the Platform. This licence terminates when you delete your User Content or your account, except where your content has been shared with other users or incorporated into collaborative works.
5.1 Acceptable Content
The Platform is designed for writers to share creative work for the purpose of finding collaboration partners. Acceptable content includes loglines, synopses, treatments, writing samples, character descriptions, pitch documents, and similar creative materials related to screenwriting, novel writing, poetry, and playwriting. Visual content such as concept art, mood boards, character illustrations, and other images submitted to support your creative projects is also permitted, subject to the AI-Generated Content Policy in Section 5.7.
5.2 Format and File Requirements
User-submitted files must be in formats supported by the Platform (as indicated at the point of upload). Files must not exceed any size limits set by the Platform. We reserve the right to reject or remove files that do not meet technical requirements or that pose a security risk.
5.3 Content Warnings
If your submitted work contains mature themes, graphic content, strong language, or other material that some readers may find distressing, you must indicate this accurately using any content warning or tagging features provided by the Platform. Misrepresenting or omitting content warnings may result in account action.
5.4 Prohibited Content
You must not submit content that:
You do not own or do not have explicit permission to share;
Is plagiarised, in whole or in part, from another author’s work;
Consists of published or produced works by other authors, including produced screenplays, published novels, or copyrighted material belonging to third parties;
Consists of written work generated entirely by artificial intelligence, or AI-generated visual content that is not clearly labelled as such (see Section 5.7 — AI-Generated Content Policy);
Contains unlawful, defamatory, harassing, threatening, or obscene material;
Contains malware, viruses, or any harmful code embedded within uploaded files.
5.5 Original Work Only
All written content submitted to the Platform must be your own original work. You represent and warrant that your User Content does not infringe any third party’s intellectual property rights, including copyright, trademark, or moral rights. Submitting another person’s work as your own is a serious violation of these Terms and will result in immediate account termination.
AI-generated visual content is exempt from the original work requirement, provided it is clearly labelled as AI-generated in accordance with Section 5.7.
5.6 Plagiarism Prohibition
Plagiarism — presenting someone else’s ideas, words, or creative work as your own — is strictly prohibited. This includes direct copying, close paraphrasing without attribution, and adapting another writer’s work without permission or credit. If we receive a credible report of plagiarism, we may investigate and, if substantiated, suspend or terminate your account.
5.7 AI-Generated Content Policy
Writer Match is a platform for human writers to connect with other human writers. Written content that is entirely generated by artificial intelligence tools (including but not limited to large language models, AI writing assistants, and automated text generators) is not permitted on the Platform. This includes scripts, synopses, loglines, treatments, and writing samples.
You may use AI tools to assist with editing, proofreading, or refining your own original written work, provided the underlying creative content — the ideas, story, characters, and expression — is genuinely your own. However, submitting AI-generated written work as if it were your original work is a violation of these Terms.
AI-Generated Visual Content: You may upload AI-generated artwork, illustrations, mood boards, concept art, character visuals, and other images to support your creative projects, provided that you clearly label such content as AI-generated using any tagging or labelling features provided by the Platform. Presenting AI-generated visual content as your own original artwork without disclosure is a violation of these Terms.
We reserve the right to investigate suspected violations and to suspend or terminate accounts that misrepresent AI-generated content as original human work.
5.8 Unauthorised Sharing
You must not share, distribute, reproduce, or make available any other user’s content outside the Platform without their explicit written consent. This includes sharing content received through matches or in-app messaging via social media, email, other platforms, or any other channel. Violation of this provision may result in immediate account termination.
5.9 Platform Content Responsibility
Writer Match does not pre-screen, verify, or endorse any User Content. Views expressed in User Content are those of the individual users and do not represent the views of Writer Match. We are not responsible for the accuracy, quality, legality, or appropriateness of any User Content.
We reserve the right, but are not obligated, to remove or restrict access to any User Content that we reasonably believe violates these Terms or may be harmful to the community.
5.10 File Storage and Deletion
User Content is stored on our servers for as long as your account is active. When you delete specific content or your entire account, we will remove your User Content from our active systems within a reasonable timeframe, subject to our data retention obligations under applicable law and any technical limitations (such as content that has already been shared with matched users or exists in system backups).
Backup copies may be retained for a limited period as part of our standard data recovery procedures but will not be actively used or made accessible.
5.11 File Safety Notice
Files submitted by users are unverified by Writer Match. We do not scan, review, or guarantee the safety of user-uploaded files. You acknowledge that opening files received from other users carries inherent risks, and you do so at your own discretion. We recommend using up-to-date antivirus software and exercising caution when opening files from users you do not know.
5.12 Platform Access to Submitted Content
Writer Match staff, contractors, and any individuals affiliated with the Platform will not open, read, download, or otherwise access user-submitted creative content (including but not limited to scripts, synopses, treatments, and writing samples) except:
Where necessary for the technical operation of the Platform (e.g., automated processing, storage, or transmission);
In response to a formal dispute where the affected user(s) have authorised access;
Where required by law, regulation, or valid legal process;
Where reasonably necessary to investigate a credible report of a serious Terms violation (e.g., plagiarism, illegal content).
In all cases, access will be limited to what is strictly necessary and will be conducted by authorised personnel only.
6. Writing Collaborations and Intellectual Property
This is a critical section. Please read it carefully.
Writer Match facilitates connections between writers. Any collaboration that results from a match on the Platform is entered into solely between the users involved. Writer Match is not a party to any collaboration agreement and has no involvement in, or liability for, the creative work produced by collaborating users.
6.1 Ownership of Collaborative Works
Any intellectual property created through a collaboration facilitated by the Platform is owned by the collaborating parties in accordance with applicable copyright law and any agreement between them. Writer Match claims no ownership interest in any collaborative work.
6.2 Disclosure Obligation
If you collaborate with another user through the Platform and subsequently sell, license, option, or otherwise commercially exploit any work arising from that collaboration, you are obligated to disclose the involvement of your collaborator(s) to any purchaser, licensee, or other relevant third party. Failure to make such disclosure is a breach of these Terms.
6.3 Collaboration Agreements
We strongly recommend that collaborating users enter into a written collaboration agreement before commencing any joint creative work. Such agreements should address, at a minimum, ownership of the resulting work, credit and attribution, revenue sharing, and the right to exploit the work independently. Writer Match does not provide collaboration agreement templates and is not responsible for the adequacy or enforceability of any agreement between users.
6.4 Limitation of Platform Liability for Collaborations
Writer Match shall not be liable for any dispute, claim, loss, or damage arising from or related to any collaboration between users, including but not limited to disputes over authorship, ownership, credit, revenue sharing, or the sale or exploitation of collaborative works. Any such disputes are solely between the users involved.
7. Acceptable Use
Writer Match has a zero-tolerance policy for objectionable content and abusive behaviour. Any user found to be posting objectionable content or engaging in abusive conduct — including but not limited to harassment, hate speech, threats, bullying, or the sharing of obscene, discriminatory, or otherwise harmful material — will be subject to immediate account suspension or permanent termination at our sole discretion. We are committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all users.
You agree not to use the Platform to:
Submit content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, threatening, obscene, or otherwise objectionable;
Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity;
Use the Platform for any purpose unrelated to writing collaboration, including solicitation, spam, advertising, or commercial promotion;
Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Platform, other users’ accounts, or any systems or networks connected to the Platform;
Use automated scripts, bots, or scrapers to access or collect data from the Platform;
Harass, stalk, or intimidate other users, or engage in any conduct that would be considered abusive or harmful.
Administrative Access: To maintain the safety and integrity of the Platform, Writer Match administrators may access account information, activity history, and usage data for the purposes of moderation, dispute resolution, quality assurance, and platform security. This does not extend to accessing your submitted creative content, which is protected under Section 5.12.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you breach these acceptable use provisions.
8. Reporting, Flagging, and Blocking
8.1 Flagging Objectionable Content
Writer Match provides in-app tools that allow you to flag content you believe to be objectionable, inappropriate, or in violation of these Terms. You may flag any User Content — including profile information, writing samples, uploaded files, and messages — that you consider to be unlawful, harassing, threatening, obscene, discriminatory, or otherwise objectionable.
When you flag content, your report is sent directly to the Writer Match team for review. We will assess all reports promptly and take appropriate action, which may include removing the flagged content, issuing a warning to the offending user, suspending the user’s account, or permanently terminating the user’s account. We reserve the right to determine, in our sole discretion, whether flagged content violates these Terms.
You are encouraged to use the flagging feature whenever you encounter content that you believe violates these Terms or that makes you feel unsafe. Misuse of the flagging feature (e.g., repeatedly flagging content in bad faith) may itself result in account action.
8.2 Blocking Abusive Users
Writer Match provides an in-app blocking feature that allows you to block any user whose behaviour you find abusive, threatening, harassing, or otherwise objectionable. When you block a user:
(a) Immediate removal: All content from the blocked user is immediately and permanently removed from your feed, match suggestions, and messaging. You will no longer see any content from the blocked user, and the blocked user will no longer be able to contact you or view your profile.
(b) Developer notification: Blocking a user automatically sends a notification to the Writer Match team, alerting us to the potentially inappropriate content or behaviour. This notification includes the identity of the blocked user and any associated content, enabling us to investigate and take further action where appropriate.
(c) Investigation and enforcement: Upon receiving a block notification, the Writer Match team will review the blocked user’s account and activity. If we determine that the blocked user has violated these Terms, we may take action up to and including permanent account termination. Repeated blocks from multiple users against the same account will be treated as a strong signal of abusive behaviour and may result in expedited enforcement action.
The blocking feature is designed to give you immediate control over your experience on the Platform. You do not need to provide a reason when blocking a user, though any additional context you provide will assist our review.
8.3 No Retaliation
Writer Match prohibits retaliation against any user who reports content, flags a violation, or blocks another user in good faith. Any attempt to retaliate against a reporting user — including through harassment, intimidation, or the creation of new accounts to circumvent a block — is a serious violation of these Terms and will result in immediate account termination.
9. In-App Messaging
The Platform provides in-app messaging to facilitate communication between matched users. You acknowledge that messages sent through the Platform may be monitored for safety, moderation, and compliance purposes. You must not use the messaging feature to share unsolicited commercial content, harmful material, or content that violates these Terms.
10. Artificial Intelligence and Automated Systems
10.1 AI-Generated Content
As stated in Section 5.7, written content that is entirely generated by artificial intelligence is not permitted on the Platform. AI-generated visual content (such as concept art, mood boards, and character illustrations) is permitted provided it is clearly labelled as AI-generated. Writer Match is built to connect human writers, and the integrity of the creative writing shared on the Platform is central to that mission.
10.2 Platform Use of AI
Writer Match may use automated systems, including machine learning algorithms, to operate the Platform. This includes but is not limited to our recommendation and matching system (see Section 11), content moderation, spam detection, and platform security. Where automated systems are used to make decisions that significantly affect your account (such as suspension or content removal), you may request a human review by contacting us.
10.3 No AI Training on User Content
Writer Match will not use your User Content to train artificial intelligence or machine learning models. The limited licence you grant us under Section 5 is solely for the purpose of operating and promoting the Platform, not for AI model development.
11. Recommendation and Matching System
11.1 How Matching Works
Writer Match uses an algorithmic recommendation system to suggest potential collaborators. The system evaluates compatibility based on information you provide in your profile, using a tiered approach:
Primary signals (highest weight): Your selected genres and preferred writing formats (e.g., screenwriting, novel writing, poetry, playwriting). Shared genres and formats are the strongest indicators of compatibility.
Secondary signals (moderate weight): Your listed creative influences, favourite books, and favourite movies. Overlap in these areas suggests creative alignment with potential collaborators.
Supporting signals (lower weight): Your writing languages, location (country and city), and profile activity (such as whether you have uploaded previous works). These provide additional context but carry less weight than creative preferences.
11.2 How Your Data Is Used
The recommendation system uses only the information you have provided in your profile. If you have not completed a particular field (e.g., you have not entered a location or listed favourite books), that signal is simply skipped — it does not count against you or reduce your visibility to other users.
11.3 No Guaranteed Outcomes
The recommendation system is designed to surface potentially compatible collaborators, but we do not guarantee the quality, suitability, or compatibility of any suggested match. The decision to connect with another user is always yours.
11.4 System Updates
We may update, modify, or refine the recommendation algorithm from time to time to improve the quality of matches. We will notify users of material changes to how the system works via in-app notification or updates to these Terms.
12. Third-Party Links and Services
The Platform may allow users to share links to external services, including but not limited to Google Drive, Dropbox, and other file-sharing platforms. Writer Match is not responsible for the content, security, or privacy practices of any third-party services. You access third-party links at your own risk.
13. Subscriptions and Payments
The Platform is currently available free of charge. We may introduce premium subscription tiers in the future, which will offer additional features. If premium subscriptions are introduced, pricing and payment terms will be communicated in advance, and your continued use of any paid features will constitute acceptance of the applicable payment terms.
Any in-app purchases or subscriptions made through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store are subject to the terms and conditions of the relevant app store.
14. Data Security and Lifecycle
14.1 Data Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data and User Content, including encryption of data in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls limiting personnel access to user data, regular security monitoring and vulnerability assessments, and secure data storage with reputable cloud infrastructure providers.
While we take reasonable steps to protect your data, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
14.2 Data Lifecycle
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide you with the Platform’s services. Upon account deletion, we will remove your personal data and User Content from our active systems within 30 days, subject to our obligations under applicable law. Certain data may be retained in anonymised or aggregated form for analytical purposes (see Section 14.3 below), but this data will not be identifiable to you.
14.3 Aggregate Analysis
We may use anonymised, aggregated data derived from Platform usage for analytical purposes, including understanding usage patterns, improving the Platform, and producing aggregate statistics. This data will not identify individual users and may be retained indefinitely. Examples include aggregate statistics on the number of matches made, the most popular genres on the Platform, and general usage trends.
14.4 Data Portability
You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you by contacting us at the address provided in Section 23. We will respond to such requests within the timeframes required by applicable data protection law.
15. Termination
You may delete your account at any time through the Platform. Upon deletion, your profile, User Content, and match history will be removed, subject to our data retention obligations under applicable law.
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms or if your continued use poses a risk to the Platform or other users.
16. Disclaimers
The Platform is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of viruses or other harmful components. We do not guarantee the quality, accuracy, or reliability of any matches or connections made through the Platform.
We do not vet, verify, or endorse any users of the Platform. We are not responsible for the conduct, whether online or offline, of any user.
17. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Writer Match shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, loss of data, loss of creative work, loss of opportunity, or reputational harm, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Platform.
Our total aggregate liability to you for any claims arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Platform shall not exceed the amount you have paid to us (if any) in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.
18. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Writer Match and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with: (a) your use of the Platform; (b) your User Content; (c) any collaboration or dispute with another user; or (d) your breach of these Terms.
19. Dispute Resolution
19.1 Between Users
Any dispute between users, including disputes arising from collaborations facilitated by the Platform, is solely between the users involved. Writer Match will not mediate, arbitrate, or otherwise intervene in user disputes.
19.2 Between You and Writer Match
Informal Resolution: Before pursuing any formal legal proceedings, you agree to first contact us at the address provided in Section 23 and attempt to resolve the dispute informally. We will endeavour to respond to your concern within 14 days. Both parties agree to engage in good faith efforts to resolve the dispute for a period of at least 30 days before either party may initiate formal proceedings.
Formal Resolution: If the dispute cannot be resolved informally within 30 days, any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Platform shall be resolved by binding arbitration administered in accordance with the rules of a recognised arbitral institution, seated in London, England. The language of arbitration shall be English.
This arbitration clause does not prevent either party from seeking injunctive or other equitable relief from the courts where necessary to protect their rights.
20. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict of law principles.
For users located in the United States: To the extent required by applicable US federal or state law, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and similar state legislation, additional protections may apply. Nothing in these Terms is intended to limit any rights you may have under applicable US consumer protection legislation.
21. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
22. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Notice, constitute the entire agreement between you and Writer Match regarding your use of the Platform and supersede all prior agreements and understandings.
